if 用來表示主要子句發生的「條件」，時間為未來時，if 子句須以現在式代替未來式，而主要子句則保留未來式。
If ＋ S ＋ V ／ be 動詞..., S ＋ V ／ be 動詞...
= S ＋ V ／ be 動詞＋ ... if ＋ S ＋ V ／ be 動詞...如：
If the weather is fine next weekend, we’ll go mountain climbing.
= We’ll go mountain climbing if the weather is fine next weekend.
（如果下週末天氣好，我們就會去爬山。）
在所有的從屬子句中，表時間（when ／ before ／ af ter ／ until 直到）和條件（if ／ once 一旦／ as long as 只要）的副詞子句，都須以現在式代替未來式，如：
When you see him tonight, tell him to call me. （你今晚見到他時，叫他打電話給我。）
