- 不同於其他動詞，授與動詞有兩個受詞：直接受詞（通常是「物」）和間接受詞 （通常是「人」）。
- 句型：
- 主詞 ＋ 授與動詞 ＋ 人 ＋ 物...
- = 主詞 ＋ 授與動詞 ＋ 物 ＋ 介系詞 ＋ 人... 例如：
- Sean bought his girlfriend some flowers.
- = Sean bought some flowers for his girlfriend. （Sean 買了些花給他女朋友。）
- 若直接受詞（物）是人稱代名詞 it 或 them 時，只可用有介系詞的寫法，如： Lend it to me.（把它借給我。）
- 搭配介系詞（to）的動詞：give 給予 ／ send 寄送 ／ lend 借給 ／ sell 賣 ／ tell 說；告訴 ／ write 寫 ／ show 展示，如：
- Jason sold his house to an American.（Jason 把他的房子賣給一個美國人。）
- 搭配介系詞（for）的動詞：buy 買 ／ make 製作 ／ bring 帶來 ／ get 取得；買，如：
- Let’s make a birthday cake for Mom by ourselves. （我們自己做個生日蛋糕給媽媽。）
- 搭配介系詞（of）的動詞：ask 問，如：
- Would you mind if I ask a personal question of you? （你介意我問你一個私人問題嗎？）
